A fantastic experience for the entire family! Our tour guide was a real miner and had real knowledge and experience that made our tour extremely informational as well as fun. This is a real mine that has been modified to show the factual side on mining. I highly recommend to everyone!
Very interesting tour, about an hour long. Not for very claustrophobic people. Two minutes in a tiny elevator decending 1000 feet. Been in the area and few times, glad I finally stopped.
*Also, if you have time to kill while waiting for your tour, the heritage museum right next to the mine is free :)
Some mine tours can be dull. This one is good, esp when you get a good tour guide. Ours was retired and had worked this very mine. What can I say? It's a mine. But the kids loved it and it was a nice cool tour to counter the high temps of our trip in 2014.
They have a few different guides, but Mike is the one we had when I took the kids. Not only was he really knowledgeable about the history and process, but he was also funny and very friendly. Great guy!!!! It doesn't matter how much you know if you don't have the ability to draw others in to help preserve its heritage. Anyone that goes should hope to have Mike as your tour guide. (The others may be just as good, but I have no knowledge of them.)
Awesome! My 6 year old son panicked right before we got on the elevator, and I thought one of us was going to have to wait with him. Luckily, our tour guide, Steve V., saved the day! He helped us talk him into getting in and from that moment on, we all had a blast(haha). Really enjoyed the tour, Steve was entertaining and kept everyone engaged. We learned so much. Highly recommend it!
